General Hamfest Information
(Thanks to Jane Hamrick, K4JPH for help in providing this information)

Flea Market:

  • Flea Market spaces are $10.00 per 10’X 20’ space, with a maximum of 5 spaces per person.

  • Flea Market spaces will be sold on Sunday, August 30, 2009 beginning at 2:00 PM and cannot be “reserved or sold in advance”.

  • “Sequence Tickets”, along with more detailed instructions, will be issued as you enter the park (beginning at 9:00 AM on Sunday)

  • These tickets determine the “order” in which you will choose your flea market space.

  • After picking up your ticket, you will be free to leave the park and return for the 2:00 PM “land rush”.

  • When returning to the park, you may park in any parking area (near the spaces you “hope” to choose), but you may not at ANY time park on the grass or “IN” a flea market space  on this "land rush" day.

  • At 1:55 PM, all ticket holders will meet at the large tree in the “top” of the horse arena area to have tickets “validated” to go to the flea market area to choose your space.

  • At 1:45, the flea market area will be “cleared” so you may NOT have a friend “holding your space”.

Hours of Operation:

  • Gates open at 7:00 AM each day (September 5 & 6th)

  • Inside Dealer Building will be open 8:00 AM-5:00 PM on Saturday

  • Inside Dealer Building will be open 8:00 AM-1:00 PM on Sunday

VEC Exams:

  • Will be given at 2:00 PM on Saturday

  • Will be given at 1:00 PM on Sunday

  • Exams will be given in “forum rooms” #1 and #2 in the Inside Dealer building

  • Signs will be posted outside the door of the testing rooms

      Sunday School:

     Bingo:

  • Will be held in Picnic Shelter #2

  • Available for all ladies and all children ages 12 and under

Please note that talk-in will be on 146.880 and on Gaston County Amateur Radio Society's 147.120 which is closer to the hamfest site.  (Many thanks to the GCARS folks for their permission to also use their repeater for talk-in!)

The Hamfest site is: 1301 Dallas Cherryville Highway, Dallas, NC

  • U.S. National Grid (USNG) Coordinates:  17S MV 82053 08043 (NAD83)
  • Longitude:  -81.1973
  • Latitude:  35.3154

The Gaston College Address is: 201 Highway 321 South, Dallas, NC

  • U.S. National Grid (USNG) Coordinates:  17S MV 82474 08020 (NAD83)

In 2008, Gaston County Parks and Tourism installed 80 new campsites. These new sites have 50 amp breakers.  If you need 30 amp service, you WILL need an adapter.  (None of the sites, old or new, will include sewer hook-ups)  A “few” campsites are currently available with “water only” (no electricity).  If you are able to use your own generator or plan to be tent camping “SPACE” will not be a problem

For “overflow” camping, the closest campsites are in the Kings Mountain State Park (about a 30 minute drive from the Hamfest site) and reservations for these sites may be made in advance (must stay at least two nights) by contacting the park directly.  Information about camping may be found at www.southcarolinaparks.com
